My trip to Detroit is already off to a proper start as I’m up way too late the night before getting things in order! Damn you, things, damn you! And damn you too, blogging, you aren’t helping. :p
I’ll be in the D (as is said) for a week (April 21st – 28th) to explore doing a project there, and hope to make many new friends, learn many new things, and, if all goes well, to return many more times to see it through. What I have in mind involves Augmented Reality stuff that can layer graphics on top of real places in the city, like how imagery pops up in this vid:
More on that later, there are some things I have to see first. But it does involve flowers. Lots and lots and lots of flowers. Oh, and you.
I don’t really know anyone in Detroit yet, but using the power of friends and friends of friends and the social internets I’ve been able to set up some amazing meetings and tours, and found places to crash through couchsurfing.com. If you are or know anyone in the city that wants to meet up, please let me know! And if there’s anything you want me to go check out, same. That’s how I’m rolling.
I’m planning to post videos and pictures and stories about the trip here. I just picked up a new still camera and a little video camera so I now have the power of capturing high-fidelity and motion again, like here, where I regale our Brooklyn apartment with tales of how I was recently outed for “brushing my teeth like a five year old.” Sorry for the potty-mouth at the end, I was over-compensating to be a man.
It’s on like Donkey Kong. See you in Detroit!

Yes now is the time and a good reminder of not wanting to miss things is that I fell asleep waiting for my flight and missed it, right next to the gate! Those virtual poppy flowers must have knocked me out. Story has a happy ending though, I’m sitting on a plane right now, about to fly, no hastle, just a little embarrassing. Oop have I turn off phones shhhh
